Some friendships are unexpected gems that just happen. Journalist Joe Wallen and Mumbai auto rickshaw driver Shaan struck a special bond during a random car ride and kept in touch.

Because of that, Shaan didn’t think twice when he asked Wallen to be his new godfather. Wallen took to social media to share the sweet story of their friendship in a series of tweets with his fans.

In the first tweet, Wallen recounts how he met Shan in 2021. A London-based journalist wrote, “Last December, I rode a random rickshaw into Jio World. It was the beginning of a wonderful and unexpected friendship..”

Furthermore, she revealed that she has been relying on Shan to drive her around town ever since. He then went on to say that Shan asked him to be the godfather of his newborn child. Wallen, who immediately accepted the offer, wrote, “Today, his wife gave birth to a son. He is called the baby Yusuf – Urdu for Joseph – and, he asked me to be god.”

In the following tweets, the journalist said, “We are very happy. It was very difficult to conceive – Shaan’s wife lives in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh and has had many problems. A few of you here. helped her get treatment when she needed it – thank you!”

He ended by threatening to post a picture of a newborn baby. Wallen wrote, “I didn’t get a new baby god in Uttar Pradesh on my bingo card this year but here he is, Yusuf Mubarak Ali – shared with Dad’s permission. We hope he plays cricket in India one day.”

Wallen and Shan’s story inspired Twitter users. Many called their friendship “beautiful” and congratulated Shan on becoming a father.
